New Delhi: A grand event related to fitness and public awareness will be organized in the capital city of Delhi on the occasion of National Sports Day. The 1992 Asian Marathon Champion and Fit India Ambassador Dr. Sunita Godara will lead the event under “Fit India” and “Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign” (NMBA), which will feature a range of fitness activities.
Under this initiative, in collaboration with the Delhi Sketchers Run Club, a “One Hour of Fitness” campaign will commence on Saturday, 29 August. The following day, Sunday, 30 August, the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium will host “Sunday Run and Ride” along with cycling, Zumba, and various game zones for citizens, youth and families. Fit India will soon release an official registration link for participation.
The silver jubilee of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign This event also symbolizes the 25th year (Silver Jubilee) of Dr. Sunita Godara’s “Health Fitness Trust” under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign. In 2003, Dr. Godara, together with the Delhi Government, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Narcotics Control Bureau, and various public sector undertakings (PSUs), launched this anti‑drugs campaign. Today, it has become a major flagship programme of the Government of India.
Commitment to a healthy and drug‑free India In a statement, Dr. Sunita Godara said the event is dedicated to the spirit of independence, a healthy India and a drug‑free India. “Our goal is to bring the message of ‘a dose of fitness, one hour daily’ to every household and inspire young people to choose fitness over drugs,” she added. She urged Delhi residents to come to JLN Stadium with friends and family and become part of “Every Step Fitness.”
