Noida. Considering the increasing traffic pressure on the extremely busy and important Prathla Chowk in the city, the proposed six‑lane underpass project is being regarded as a significant step towards improving traffic management. This underpass will facilitate vehicle movement on the FNG corridor and help reduce the congestion at Prathla Chowk.

The proposed underpass has been designed with future traffic requirements in mind. Under the project, the underpass will have three lanes in each direction. Its total length will be about 710 metres. In each direction, a roughly 110‑metre‑long RCC box, a 20‑metre open section, and approach roads of approximately 280 metres on either side are proposed.

To address flooding and seepage problems during the rainy season, provisions have been made for two sumps and appropriate pumping arrangements. The underpass is proposed to be constructed using diaphragm wall technology and on‑site RCC construction, which will help maintain the stability of surrounding land and existing infrastructure during construction.

A crucial link for the FNG corridor

Prathla Chowk is located at a key junction of the FNG corridor and the development route. The FNG corridor is an important artery linking Ghaziabad, NH‑9, Meerut Expressway, Noida, Greater Noida Expressway and, in the future, Faridabad. Heavy traffic persists on this route throughout the day, and during peak morning and evening hours the congestion at Prathla Chowk becomes especially severe.

Given the rapid residential and commercial development in Noida West and surrounding areas, traffic pressure is expected to increase in the coming years. Accordingly, the underpass has been prepared as a long‑term traffic solution.

Project worth approximately ₹80 crore

The estimated construction cost of the project is about ₹80 crore, and a construction period of roughly 18 months has been proposed. After the underpass is completed, smoother vehicle movement on the FNG corridor and a reduction in vehicle stoppage and congestion at Prathla Chowk are expected.

The project is expected to provide better connectivity and traffic facilities to residents of Sectors 66, 71, 121 and 122, Kisan Chowk, Chhijarsi and the surrounding areas.
