Pattaacharya Shri Vishuddhasagar Ji Gurudev, addressing the Dharma Sabha, said that—

Temperance is the adornment of life

The finest adornment of human life is virtue—self‑restraint. Temperance is rare as a deity. Even the gods of heaven yearn for temperance. Only the great souls, by embracing temperance, become travelers on the path of peace. Temperance is the means to happiness. A temperate person is beneficial to oneself. Protecting living beings is a form of creature‑restraint, and renouncing the pleasures of the senses is sense‑restraint.

Avoid worldly wandering, cross the ocean of existence

Since time immemorial, worldly beings, bound by ignorance, delusion, attachment and aversion, have been suffering while plunging into the ocean of existence; and the human body, along with hell and the three other realms, roams in pain across the four states of existence. To attain eternal happiness, peace, and bliss, one must abandon attachment and aversion, realize the true principle, and strive for self‑purification. If peace is desired, avoid worldly wandering, cross the ocean of existence, and pause the cycle of movement.

Divine devotion, the giver of pleasures

Through devotion to the Lord, merit increases. Through devotion to the Lord, sin diminishes. Devotion to the Lord bestows joy. Devotion is the foundation of liberation. Through devotion to the Lord, all the world's pleasures are attained.
